Indian basketball has a new viral name, and Jagmeet Singh is getting attention for more than simply standing 7-foot-4.
The Class of 2027 big man from Punjab exploded across social media after a Courtside Camp video showed a rare mix of size, movement and skill.
The nickname arrived fast, even if the Victor Wembanyama comparisons need patience.

Jagmeet Singh goes viral as 7-foot-4 Indian Wemby prospect
A Courtside Films post identified Singh as a 7-foot-4 Class of 2027 big man from Punjab, India, after he impressed at Courtside Camp.
Clips showed him finishing near the rim, protecting the paint, handling the ball in transition and flashing perimeter touch. At that height, those flashes are enough to make scouts and fans stop scrolling.
Singh is from Punjab and has been linked to development in the Chicago area, including grassroots exposure, camps and showcases. He has also represented India at youth level, including the FIBA Under-16 Asia Championship in Qatar.
He remains early in the recruiting cycle, with no major public college commitment or clear ranking from the biggest recruiting services. That could change quickly if the summer buzz keeps growing.
Fans compare Jagmeet Singh to Wembanyama as India watches
One fan saw the size debate first: “There should be a height cut off in nba else it just comes down to genetics massively.”
Another leaned fully into the hype: “Sikhs are warriors bruh. He will make Wemby look like a kid in a few years.”
The shock factor was obvious, with one fan writing: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Indian that tall before.”
Another joked: “We got Indian wemby before GTA 6.”
One reaction summed up the mystery around towering prospects: “Where do these dudes keep coming from.”
India has had basketball breakthroughs before. Satnam Singh became the first Indian-born player drafted into the NBA in 2015, while Sim Bhullar became the first player of Indian descent to appear in an NBA regular-season game.
Singh is not there yet. He needs strength, polish and real high-level reps. But 7-foot-4 players who can move and shoot do not stay anonymous for long.
