Jaylen Brown has long been a cornerstone in Boston, but the Celtics’ pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo has cast new doubt over his future.

With just a day to go before the NBA Draft, the trade market is heating up.

Boston’s biggest bargaining chip is Brown himself.

Jaylen Brown inclusion gives Celtics the lead in Giannis race

The Stein Line reported that the Celtics gained real traction over the weekend thanks to a deal built around Brown.

UPDATE: One league source, after my story published, told The Stein Line that the Celtics emerged from the weekend “with a real shot” to win this race with a Jaylen Brown-centric offer … adding that Milwaukee has considered going ahead even without a third-team facilitator.

This is not a throw-in. Brown is a Finals MVP-level wing who stepped up in Jayson Tatum’s absence and remains a central part of Boston’s identity.

On Monday morning, Brian Windhorst added weight to the report, telling ESPN that Boston and Miami have pulled clear of the pack as the two main contenders for Antetokounmpo.

Timing is everything. The Bucks want clarity before the draft, now just a day away. If they are rebuilding, they need picks and direction before selections are made. If they are taking Brown, they may not need a third team to get the deal over the line.

For Boston, the move is ruthless but clear. Antetokounmpo is still one of the league’s most dominant forces, and pairing him with Tatum would immediately reshape the Eastern Conference.

Jaylen Brown’s availability forces the Heat to respond

Miami now has to respond quickly.

Their expected offer built around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and the No. 13 pick with additional draft compensation looks different when Milwaukee can choose Brown instead. Brown gives the Bucks a ready-made All-NBA caliber player that they could flip into something more impactful rather than a collection of assets.

That is where Detroit could come into play. The Pistons have been linked as a possible Herro destination, which could help Miami redirect more appealing value to the Bucks. If that is not enough, the Heat might need a four-team or five-team structure to turn Herro into assets Milwaukee actually wants.

Miami may offer Antetokounmpo the best basketball fit and lifestyle, but Boston may have the more compelling player to send back.

Brown has been mentioned in trade rumors before, but this time the noise feels different. The Celtics may finally have found a player worth putting on the table for.
