With Alexandre Lacazette’s contract expiring in June, Arsenal may need a new centre-forward if they decide to offload the Frenchman.

According to The Sun, Mikel Arteta and Edu are already examining the situation, and have identified some potential replacements.

It’s said that Arsenal have shortlisted Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins for potential moves to the Emirates Stadium in 2022.

In Calvert-Lewin’s case, he posted something very interesting in 2013 which suggests he might favour a move to Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, the £72,000-a-week striker once tweeted #COYG before Arsenal took on Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Calvert-Lewin tweeted his support for the Gunners ahead of their trip to the Allianz Arena, and it somewhat did the trick as a respectable 0-0 draw was earned by Arsene Wenger’s side.

He has nothing against Bayern Munich – as far as we know – so we can only assume the England international is, or was, an Arsenal fan.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Ollie Watkins for Arsenal?

Funnily enough, it sounds like Watkins is also an Arsenal fan, as he said it would be a dream to play for the Gunners back in 2020.

So, with two Arsenal fans on the shortlist, who does Arteta choose?

In our view, we’d have to opt for Calvert-Lewin.

The Everton No.9 is one year younger than Watkins at 24, and has achieved more in football than the Aston Villa No.11.

Calvert-Lewin has amassed 150 Premier League appearances, scoring 43 goals and providing nine assists.

Watkins – aged 25 – has spent more time in the lower leagues, and has therefore only made 42 Premier League outings, scoring 15 goals.

Both forwards are excellent footballers, and it is hard to choose between the pair.

However, for the above reasons, we’d opt for Calvert-Lewin if we were Edu.
