If Arsenal go in for Ollie Watkins it would be interesting to see if he’d be as open to a move to the Emirates Stadium as he was in 2020.

Interesting comments

Watkins joined Aston Villa from Brentford just two years ago, and at the time he had a whole host of interest in him.

Arsenal were actually not one of the clubs who pushed the hardest to sign the England international forward.

But he was asked just last season by the Super 6 podcast whether he would have joined Arsenal, if the move had presented itself, and his response was very interesting.

He said: “Yeah, I think so. Yeah. My Grandad, all my family [supported them]. I even said it when I was at Brentford and I said it would be a dream to play for Arsenal and I loved them growing up.”

Fresh Arsenal interest

Those comments have taken on added meaning of late, as The Sun claim that Arsenal are now interested in landing Watkins.

Arsenal apparently view the Aston Villa forward as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.

Watkins has proven his quality in the Premier League over the past year.

He netted 14 goals in his first season and got his goalscoring account up and running for the new campaign at the weekend, when he hit the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur.

If Arsenal were to sign him he is unlikely to come cheaply though.

Villa paid almost £30 million to take Watkins from Brentford and would surely be wanting to make significant profit if they were to even consider letting him leave.
