Gian Piero Gasperini will not be leaving Atalanta with Tottenham Hotspur set to miss out on yet another managerial target, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport via Calciomercato.

Daniel Levy’s shortlist is shrinking quicker than your favourite jumper on a spin cycle.

When the Spurs chairman sacked Jose Mourinho a month ago, the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Erik Ten Hag, Marcelino Garcia Toral, Jesse Marsch and Julian Nagelsmann emerged as the early frontrunners.

Four weeks later, every single one of the aforementioned candidates has either distanced themselves from the post, signed a new contract or joined another club.

Hansi Flick, meanwhile, has confirmed that talks are underway regarding a switch to the German national team amid claims that Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga winner has admirers in North London.

According to Atalanta president Antonio Percassi, 63-year-old Gasperini is not going to be swapping European football’s great entertainers for the English capital either.

Where on earth does Levy go from here?

“We never thought of parting with Gasperini. He has always shown that he is grateful,” Percassi said.

“We will continue with him. To be honest, we could even renew his contract.”

Gasperini may be ‘grateful’ to the opportunity Atalanta handed him back in 2016 but the feeling is undeniably mutual.

La Dea were nothing more than a run-of-the-mill, mid-table outfit when the former Inter Milan boss took over five years ago. Now, they are perhaps the most thrilling, free-flowing side in the entirety of Serie A.

Atalanta, sitting second in the table, will be a Champions League team for the third season in a row too should they avoid defeat against AC Milan in the final game of the season this weekend.
