Arsenal or Liverpool could soon be signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton with developments expected next week.

What’s the story?

Well, Spanish news outlet AS have boldly claimed that the Ecuador international has now “finalised” his departure from Brighton amid interest from Mikel Arteta and Jürgen Klopp.

Caicedo has changed his agency in an attempt to push through an exit from the Amex Stadium, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Arsenal are “well informed” about his situation.

AS add that Liverpool are lurking in the race for the South American’s signature.

Caicedo – who Brighton signed for just £4.5m – was recently the subject of a £55m bid from Chelsea, which was rejected by the Seagulls.

However, Roberto De Zerbi – Manager of Brighton – was unable to confirm that his No.25 would stay for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The Athletic quote the Italian as saying: “The best solution is he can finish the season with us and in the summer it is better to change teams. If Caicedo continues to play like the last games it is possible he can leave (now).”

Caicedo has become a hugely important player for Brighton despite being just 21 years of age.

The Ecuadorian has made 18 starts in the Premier League this season, as Brighton find themselves sixth in England’s top-flight.

Liverpool need Caicedo more than Arsenal

In our view, Klopp should be making more of an effort to sign Caicedo than Arsenal.

The Gunners currently have a very effective midfield in the trio of Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey and Martin Ødegaard, which has helped them create a five point lead at the top of the Premier League.

In Liverpool’s case, Klopp is still using the likes of Curtis Jones and has been forced to dip into the academy to promote Stefan Bajcetic, with the German’s lack of options leaving his side ninth in the Premier League.

The midfield department at Anfield needs a major overhaul, so if Caicedo really is preparing to leave Brighton, Liverpool need to ensure they are at the front of the queue.
