Liverpool have reportedly submitted a £55million bid as Arne Slot works towards bringing his first signing to Anfield.

It has been a slow start to the transfer window for the Reds, but it seems the groundwork has been laid for their first summer arrival.

Japanese outlet Sponichi report that Liverpool are in the final stages of finalising a deal for Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo.

The report adds that Liverpool are set to pay 65million Euros (£55million) for the 23-year-old winger, who has been chosen to succeed Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

With question marks around Salah’s future at Liverpool, it appears that the Reds have put their faith in Kubo to follow in his footsteps.

Ange Postecoglou shared special moment with Liverpool target

Prior to his time at Real Sociedad, Kubo spent three seasons at Real Madrid and one at Yokohama F. Marinos.

While on loan at the Japanese side he was coached by current Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou brought him to the club when he was aged just 17, and he put faith in Kubo to help the club escape relegation in 2018.

After completing his loan move, Postecoglou put Kubo straight into action against Vissel Kobe. It was Kubo’s first start for the club and he rewarded Postecoglou’s faith by scoring the opener in a crucial 2-0 win.

As reported by Goal in 2018, a 17-year-old Kubo only had one thing on his mind after scoring – celebrating with Postecoglou.

He ran straight towards the touchline and shared a heart-warming embrace with his manager after scoring his first goal for the club.

Not only did Postecoglou want to sign Kubo while he was at Celtic, but he has also been linked with a re-union during his time at Tottenham.

However, he appears set to move to Liverpool in what will be a statement signing for Slot.

Kubo will have big boots to fill at Anfield but he is clearly admired by Postecoglou and has a bright future ahead of him.
