Tottenham and Liverpool target Marcelo Brozovic is quite the athlete, and he proved that once again for Croatia at the World Cup.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Mondo Calcio News who revealed that Tottenham are currently leading the race to sign the 30-year-old from Inter Milan.

Elsewhere, Calcio Mercato Web claimed that Liverpool are keen to sign Brozovic, although he has a £52m price tag.

If Antonio Conte and Jürgen Klopp watched Croatia’s Round of 16 win over Japan on Monday, their interest in the tireless midfielder surely increased.

Brozovic set a new World Cup record in terms of distance covered by running 16.7km against Japan, playing all 120 minutes while also having enough energy left over to score his penalty in the shootout.

Amazingly, the Inter Milan No.77 was the holder of that specific record anyway, after recording a distance of 16.3km in the 2018 World Cup semi-final win over England.

You can certainly see why Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in his services.

So far this season at club level, Brozovic has made 12 outings in all competitions for Inter Milan, scoring two goals, and he actually made 88 appearances under Conte during their time together at the San Siro.

Liverpool need Brozovic more than Tottenham

In our view, Klopp needs Brozovic more than Conte does.

The German currently has a rusty midfield department at Liverpool. Jordan Henderson is 32, James Milner turns 37 in January, while the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are too injury prone.

Contrastingly, Conte has some very attractive midfield options.

The Italian lines up with the impressive duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park, which doesn’t even leave room for his £25m signing Yves Bissouma.

If Brozovic does end up leaving the San Siro, he should choose to join Liverpool if he wants regular playing time.
