AC Milan are one of the most prestigious and respected sides in world football, yet their future is about to get very interesting with the Italian club on the brink of a complete takeover.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Bahrain-based investment fund Investcorp are close to finalising the takeover of Milan, with the Italian giants set to join the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United in being 100% controlled by Middle Eastern investors.

With reports suggesting that Milan could have as much as €300m (£250m) to spend this summer alone, there could potentially be a new player in the transfer market along with Newcastle and City once the takeover is complete, who are also set to splash out in the window.

Yet for Milan, their transfer strategy under Paolo Maldini has worked wonders in recent years, with the legendary former defender lowering the club’s average age and slashing their wage bill. So with that in mind, who could the Rossoneri sign from the Premier League this summer?

Nathan Ake

Nathan Ake’s role at Manchester City is complicated, to say the least. And this summer could well see the Netherlands defender leave the Premier League giants after struggling to nail down a guaranteed place in the first XI.

And Milan could be a perfect destination. Whilst Stefan Pioli’s side have been great defensively this season, a long-term replacement for Simon Kjaer is needed for the Italian side, and Ake’s qualities would make the centre-back perfect for the Italian side.

Joe Gomez

Another defender Milan could look at signing this summer is Joe Gomez, who looks set to leave Liverpool after losing out on his first-team spot alongside Virgil van Dijk to a rejuvenated Joel Matip and an exciting Ibrahima Konate.

Indeed, Milan have their own success story in signing a similar player like Gomez in Fikayo Tomori, who has arguably been the best English centre-back this season and could benefit with a fellow countryman alongside him in the defence.

Milan’s current squad is full of young and exciting talents, yet one problem position this season for the Rossoneri has been the right-wing spot, which probably explains why Raheem Sterling has been linked with a move to Lombardy in the past few weeks.

Recent reports have suggested that Milan could make the England international their statement signing this summer, and given Sterling’s uncertain future in Manchester and the finances on offer in a potential move to Italy, the 26-year-old could be a realistic signing for Pioli and Maldini.

Raphinha

Leeds United are set to lose Raphinha this summer, with FC Barcelona leading the chase for the £50m-rated Brazilian international as things stand, yet with Milan now in the money, there’s arguably a no better fit for the Italian side this summer than the 25-year-old.

Brilliant to watch and productive in both goals and assists, Raphinha’s game is perfect for Serie A football and for the direction in which Milan wants to take, and a move to the San Siro could be tempting for the Leeds star if Barcelona comes up short in the coming week.

Marcus Rashford

Another high-profile player who could be on the move in the transfer window, Marcus Rashford looks set to leave his boyhood club in Manchester United this summer, and Milan might be an ideal destination for the England star after the takeover.

The Rossoneri need a younger striker compared to Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and a complete change in scenery for Rashford could be what unlocks the forward’s potential that many of us know that the United star possesses.

Armando Broja

A cheaper and arguably more exciting option to Rashford for Milan, though, could be Chelsea prospect Armando Broja, who this season has exploded onto the scene with Southampton after a successful loan spell with the south coast Premier League side.

20-years-old, physically a specimen and a full international with Albania, Broja has all the qualities to lead the line for a top European club for years to come, and for Milan, the Slough-born striker could be that player for them this summer.
