An Aston Villa target has hinted that he would be open to a Premier League move next summer after receiving offers during the recent transfer window.

Aston Villa were one of the busiest sides in the Premier League this summer, adding the likes of Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley to their ranks, while also selling big names such as Douglas Luiz to Juventus and Moussa Diaby to Saudi Arabia.

Unai Emery may have wanted more to come through the door and one target, valued at £50m, admitted that he had offers from top-flight clubs to make the move to England.

Aston Villa target Jonathan David reveals Premier League proposal

Both Villa and Chelsea were one of the many sides interested in bringing Lille striker Jonathan David to their club in the summer.

David scored 19 goals in 34 games to finish as Ligue 1’s second-highest goalscorer last season, with only Kylian Mbappe scoring more.

The forward also recently became Canada’s all-time leading goalscorer with 29 goals from 55 caps, with his goalscoring exploits attracting attention from all across Europe.

Since 2018, the 24-year-old has reached double figures for goals every season, and David admitted that he wasn’t short of offers this summer.

He told The Athletic: “There were a couple of offers and we just didn’t finish the deal, that’s it. I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches but ultimately made the decision to stay.”

Aston Villa target could stay at club despite major European interest

David’s contract expires at the end of this season, meaning many sides will be eyeing up the prospect of signing the forward on a free transfer, however, there is every chance he could commit to a new deal at Lille.

“I’m in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract is going to run out. So then we’ll see. We’ll see what happens next year,” he stated.

The Premier League isn’t the only league that interests David, who plans to keep his options open.

“I’m open to anything,” the 24-year-old said.

“I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world. And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”
