A reported Tottenham Hotspur target has just won himself a league title.

Marco Asensio scored in Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Espanyol on Saturday as Carlo Ancelotti led the Spanish giants to La Liga glory.

It was the 26-year-old’s 10th goal in 29 league appearances for Los Blancos and you can see why Tottenham are reportedly keen on the Spanish winger.

Asensio, who has a £442 million release clause in Madrid, has been offered to Spurs this summer, according to the print edition of The Sunday Mirror [10th of April, 2022].

However, this is a player with a taste for silverware and the Lilywhites’ trophy woes might stand against them here.

This is Asensio’s third La Liga title with Real, with whom he has also won the Champions League on two separate occasions.

And Tottenham, well, the North Londoners haven’t won a trophy since way back in 2008 – and even that was a Carabao Cup success, under former Blancos manager Juande Ramos.

There’s no doubt that Spurs have a world-class coach in the form of Antonio Conte and if anybody can end the club’s 14-year trophy drought, it’s the veteran Italian tactician.

But going from winning lots of trophies in Spain to a club infamous for not winning any could be considered a gamble.

And although Tottenham have been offered the player, there’s nothing to say that Asensio himself will be interested in the transfer.
