£4 million forward admits he wants move to Sunderland, deal had previously stalled

A player who Sunderland are keen on has admitted he wants to join the club with just days remaining before the window slams shut.

New Sunderland manager Roger Le Bris has been busy in the summer transfer market as the Black Cats hope to break back into the play-off places and eventually return to the Premier League.

Sunderland have impressively started the season with two wins from two including a 4-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday.

The Black Cats, as mentioned, have made a host of key additions and it appears one transfer target is keen on moving to the Stadium Of Light.

Alexandre Mendy makes Sunderland plea

Sunderland have been linked with a move for SM Caen forward Alexandre Mendy and the Frenchman has made his position clear on a move.

Kylian Mbappé’s investment fund, Coalition Capital, recently bought a majority stake at the Ligue 2 side. Mendy has held talks with the Real Madrid star and the club’s new leaders, to get a move to Sunderland.

“It’s clear to me and to everyone that I want to go to Sunderland, the new management must respect the commitments made by the institution to me. If I train today, it is to be ready to start this new challenge with Sunderland,” he told Foot Mercato.

“I repeat it, but I said goodbye to D’Ornano, my teammates. Kylian is the boss and so he calls me. The new management must understand that it is the man who is affected, and this is the worst thing.

“I respected the club, the fans and today, after four years at the club, I want to leave having given the best of myself. I leave on the best note. Caen and the fans will always be in my heart, but my head is at Sunderland.”

Sunderland in for busy end to transfer window

HITC understands that Sunderland winger Jack Clarke is having a medical at Ipswich Town ahead of a £20 million move to the Premier League club after the Black Cats accepted their offer for the Englishman.

We have also reported that Sunderland are closing in on Wilson Isidor and the Black Cats are also keen on Roko Simic.

If the Black Cats pull these two deals off, it is hard to see where Mendy would fit into their plans so the Frenchman could well be stuck at Ligue 2 side SM Caen.
