HITC understands Sunderland have agreed terms with Regis Le Bris to become their new manager.

Last season, Sunderland had a bitterly disappointing campaign under Tony Mowbray as the Black Cats finished 16th in the EFL Championship table.

The Mackems struggled throughout the majority of the campaign and the former West Brom manager Mowbray was sacked towards the end of last season.

The managerial hunt for Sunderland has been rather messy but the club are finally closing in on a replacement for the Englishman with FC Lorient boss Regis Le Bris closing in on a move to the Stadium Of Light.

Le Bris agrees terms ahead of Sunderland move

The Lorient boss has agreed terms on a move to Wearside and a work-permit has been applied for as it appears the club’s search for a new manager is finally coming to an end.

Le Bris agreeing to take charge ends a long search for Sunderland – who have failed to agree terms with a host of other names in what has been a frustrating period for the club.

It is now looking like the club have settled on Le Bris. Lorient were relegated under Le Bris but finished in 10th place in Ligue 1 in the season prior.

Le Bris agreement brings an end to Sunderland’s managerial struggles

The Wearside club spoke to a variety of candidates throughout the process as HITC understands that Will Still, Paul Heckingbottom, Liam Rosenior and Danny Rohl were all approached in recent weeks about taking the Sunderland job.

However, HITC understands that all of these names turned down the chance to manage at the Stadium Of Light next season.

Le Bris certainly has a big job on his hands in England as Sunderland hope to make a return to the Premier League after they were relegated from England’s top flight back in 2017.
