Sven Botman is either a masterful troll or the defender is genuinely interested in a transfer to Newcastle United.

The Lille powerhouse is being heavily linked with a move to Tyneside.

According to The Athletic, the French side value Botman at around £35 million and they’re considering Newcastle’s second offer for the towering Dutchman.

The Magpies kicked off their January spending with a £12 million addition of Kieran Trippier on Friday.

However, plenty more reinforcements are necessary in order to keep Newcastle – 19th in the standings – in the Premier League.

Is Botman coming to Newcastle?

Well, the answer is……potentially.

This weekend, the 22-year-old ‘liked’ an Instagram post about him moving to St James’s Park.

In the photograph, a Newcastle jersey was photoshopped on to the player’s torso.

So either Botman – once labelled a ‘machine’ by Jose Fonte – has a wicked sense of humour and enjoys trolling United supporters in the knowledge that he isn’t joining Eddie Howe’s outfit.

Or, equally plausible, he does in fact want to join Newcastle during the January transfer window.

Howe and Saudi Public Investment Fund showed brilliant foresight in getting the Trippier transfer done so rapidly after the window open.

And really, the quicker Botman is resolved – one way or the other – the better for all parties involved.
