Newcastle United have ramped up their talks for Lille defender Sven Botman after receiving indications that he is interested in joining.

The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle are advancing their move for Botman with talks intensifying earlier today.

Botman has ‘shown a willingness’ to join Newcastle and is keen to make the move to Tyneside during the January window.

This is great news for Newcastle.

Newcastle allegedly worried that, whilst they have wanted Botman for a while, he would prefer a safer project.

As things stand though, Newcastle now have real hope of a £30million deal to kick off their new era.

Who is Newcastle target Sven Botman?

Botman was schooled at Ajax, meaning he is more than adept with the ball at his feet.

Eddie Howe wants a left-sided centre back and Botman absolutely fits the bill.

Botman joined Lille in 2020, arriving as a replacement for Gabriel Magalhaes following his move to Arsenal.

Now one of Europe’s top young defenders, the 21-year-old is an enormous presence at 6ft 5in tall and has been branded a ‘machine’ by Jose Fonte.

Make no mistake, if Newcastle can pull this deal off, it would be a stunning coup to start the PIF era in style.
