It was reported on Tuesday that Georgios Giakoumakis wanted to join Celtic.

According to Inside Futbol, the red-hot Greek hitman is in ‘constant contact’ with Ange Postecoglou about a move to Parkhead this summer.

He scored 29 goals in 33 games for relegated Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo last season, meaning his stock couldn’t be any higher right now.

But with Werder Bremen also heavily linked, that complicates Celtic’s hopes of completing what would be a £3 million deal, at £12,000 per week.

However, the Hoops have some good news on that front.

The German club’s sporting director Frank Baumann has confirmed that the player now won’t be joining Bremen.

He said: “He‘ll find a good club, that’s business.”

Cleared path

The good news here for Celtic is that in theory, it clears a path for Postecoglou to get his man.

The Scots and Bremen seemed to be in a two-horse race for his signature and the although the latter’s withdrawal could see other clubs make their interest known, it has to be assumed that the Bhoys are now big, big favourites to land him.
