One of the strangest signings in Liverpool’s recent history has to be the signing of Ben Davies.

The centre-back was signed towards the end of the January transfer window last year amid the Reds’ injury crisis in defence, but he’s still never played a single game for the Reds.

However, despite the fact he’s never been used by Jurgen Klopp, he’s seemingly rated by the German.

Klopp has previously described him as ‘really good’, and according to The Athletic, the Englishman was told this summer that he has a future at Anfield.

Davies was sent out on loan to Sheffield United this season, and unfortunately, he’s not had the best of times.

He’s played 12 games and, despite the fact the Blades were up there in terms of the promotion favourites at the start of the season, he’s kept just four clean sheets in that time.

Davies hasn’t been able to impress all that much during this time. He’s averaging just a 6.68 rating on WhoScored, while his 1.5 tackles per game and 1.1 interceptions per game aren’t exactly the best numbers.

However, things could be about to change for Davies.

Indeed, Slavisa Jokanovic has left Bramall Lane and the man who has replaced him is Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom will bring about change in the Steel City, and Davies is exactly the type of player who could thrive under the former Barnsley boss.

The former Leeds man likes to have defenders who can play out from the back, and throughout his career, a left-footed option at the back has been pivotal to his set-up.

Jack O’Connell seemingly won’t be back for Sheffield United anytime soon, so it stands to reason that Davies will be the Blades’ number one choice in that role from now on.

Sheffield United certainly have a squad to be in a better position than 16th in the Championship and perhaps a change in manager could be the spark that ignites their, and Davies’, season.
