Rangers waved goodbye to Joe Aribo back in July after the 26-year-old rejected the chance to stay at Ibrox.

It was talkSPORT who claimed that the Nigeria international decided against staying in Glasgow as he rejected a new contract, amid interest from the Premier League.

Aribo eventually joined Southampton after they struck a £10m agreement with Rangers, and got off to a strong start as he scored on his second Premier League appearance.

Now, however, things have turned sour for the London-born midfielder.

What’s the story?

Well, Aribo could already be leaving Southampton – according to the Daily Record.

It is said that Nathan Jones has no interest in keeping passengers at St Mary’s as he aims to move fringe players on.

Aribo has been left on bench in Southampton’s last two Premier League outings against Everton and Aston Villa, with the Daily Record under the impression that Jones would “certainly” sell his No.7 if an offer came in.

It represents a significant dip in Aribo’s career just months after he arguably enjoyed the pinnacle of his time in football so far, when scoring in the Europa League final for Rangers against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The attacking midfielder scored nine goals and provided ten assists for the Scottish giants last season in what was the best campaign of his career to date, so it is sad to see him fizzle out in English football.

Rangers should ask about Aribo

Aribo is said to earn £60,000-a-week at Southampton, which is far too much for a fringe player to receive.

Therefore, Rangers should ask about taking him back on a loan deal.

A permanent move seems too expensive for Michael Beale, but the Saints may be willing to get £30,000-a-week off their wage bill and agree to loan Aribo back to Glasgow while covering half of his wages.

Be sure to keep an eye on his situation, as anything could happen between now and the transfer deadline.
