Tottenham and Newcastle target Nicolo Zaniolo has caused deadline day drama as he skips training against the wishes of Roma.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Media Foot who revealed that West Ham want Zaniolo, while Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports believes Spurs are keen.

Bournemouth actually had a €28m (£25m) bid accepted by Roma for the Italy international – according to Tutto Mercato Web – although he was unsure about a move to the Vitality Stadium and the Cherries then spent their funds elsewhere.

Now, Zaniolo could be joining Tottenham or Newcastle if they decide to match that offer, with his conduct in Rome today surely burning bridges with the Italian giants.

Alfredo Pedulla believes the 23-year-old was given permission to miss training on Monday after angry supporters turned up outside his house, disgruntled by the fact he wants to leave the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Zaniolo was expected to return to training today ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Cremonese in Serie A, although he was nowhere to be seen.

In our view, José Mourinho is surely furious, having already hit out at the Roma No.22 in a press conference due to his persistent requests to leave.

The Portuguese tactician said: “Zaniolo has been saying for a month that he wants to leave.”

Tottenham & Newcastle may have second thoughts on Zaniolo

In our view, Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe will surely be having second thoughts about Zaniolo following his recent antics.

Both the Italian and the Englishman take no nonsense, and have worked hard to create a tight knit squad packed of hardworking, professional players.

Therefore, the fact Zaniolo is deciding to miss training to get his way surely won’t go down well with Conte or Howe, regardless of how talented the Italian forward is.

Having said that, anything can happen on deadline day, so be sure to keep an eye on this situation up until tonight’s 11pm deadline.
