Kieran Tierney has offered a heartfelt reaction to Calum Chambers leaving Arsenal.
Arsenal terminated the 27-year-old’s contract at London Colney on Thursday evening.
Chambers then immediately joined Aston Villa as a free agent, six months before his contract was due to expire.
The former Southampton defender impressed for the Gunners in a League Cup trip to Liverpool earlier this month.
However, two Premier League appearances this season pretty much indicated that his time was up in North London.
It seems like Chambers was a popular figure within Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Not only did a number of Arsenal players wish him well on Instagram, but Tierney, a £25 million signing in 2019, went the extra mile on social media, describing him as ‘one of the good guys’.
HITC Sport wrote earlier on Friday that Chambers’s exit indicates that Arteta and Edu will be signing a defender.
After all, Pablo Mari has already left the Emirates Stadium on loan and honestly, the Gunners pair cannot afford not to sign a replacement.
It’ll be fascinating to see how he fares at Villa Park under Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard will have been watching his former club Liverpool against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, in which Chambers was introduced early on due to a Cedric Soares injury.
And it was an excellent cameo from Chambers – who joined the North Londoners in 2014 – and it’s possible that’s what planted the seed in Gerrard’s mind.
