Arsenal saw a £60m bid rejected for Moises Caicedo on Friday as Mikel Arteta stepped up his pursuit of the Ecuador international.
The Gunners saw their chances of signing the Brighton No.25 boosted after he requested to leave in a statement on Instagram, where he revealed his aspirations to become the most successful Ecuadorian player in history.
If that wasn’t enough of a boost for the north Londoners, an old photo suggests Caicedo may be an Arsenal fan.
What’s the story?
Well, the South American did not act like this after Chelsea saw a £55m bid rejected – according to The Athletic – which suggests he has been more emotionally moved by the chance to play for Arsenal.
If Caicedo does support the Gunners, that would explain why an old photo shows him wearing an Arsenal shirt back home in Ecuador, alongside a friend wearing a Tottenham shirt.

Caicedo seems desperate for a move to the Emirates Stadium, and his behaviour since Arsenal’s £60m bid was rejected has made that very clear.

As things stand, Arsenal remain in talks with Brighton over a deal for Caicedo – according to the BBC.
The onus is now on Edu to increase the £60m offer after Caicedo made his position very clear – Fabrizio Romano believes he is even thinking about missing training in a new attempt to force an exit.
Brighton would be unwise to keep the South American wonderkid from this point on given how public he has been with his desire to leave, so we would expect a deal to go through if Arsenal offer £5m or £10m more.
Having said that, a story in The Times claims that Brighton wanted £100m before Caicedo asked to leave, so it may take a while to agree a fee with the Seagulls.
