New Leeds signing Modou Barrow worked with Garry Monk at Swansea City.

Leeds United snapped up winger Modou Barrow on loan from Swansea City on deadline day, reuniting him with his former Swans boss Garry Monk.

With Monk keen for more attacking reinforcements, the Leeds manager secured two new faces on the final day of the January transfer window, as Alfonso Pedraza arrived from Villarreal before Barrow joined from Swansea.

Barrow, 24, is a particularly exciting signing for Leeds having flashed real ability in the Premier League this season, notching two assists in 18 top flight appearances.

The Gambian could make his Leeds debut against Huddersfield Town on Sunday, and fans should be looking forward to seeing him in action due to his blistering pace.

Barrow is something of a coup for Leeds, and his relationship with manager Monk appears to have been a major factor in the winger’s decision to drop down to the Championship for the rest of the season.

Monk swooped to land Barrow from Swedish outfit Ostersunds in 2014, and whilst he wasn’t a regular, having been farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers, it’s clear that the duo have a mutual respect for one another.

After Monk was sacked by Swansea in December 2015, Barrow spoke to Wales Online about his ‘disappointment’ at the decision, as managers need to be backed through difficult spells.

Barrow noted that Monk is a ‘good manager’ who believed in every player at his disposal, meaning he should be delighted to work with the Leeds boss again – and fans will love that the winger has had such huge respect for Monk for such a long time even before his move to Elland Road.

“It doesn’t affect us a lot but to be honest when our old manager Monk went I was disappointed because I knew things were going badly but every club has that kind of season once,” said Barrow in February 2016.

“Sometimes things go wrong, not for the full season but for 10 or 11 games. You have to go through those periods but he was a good manager for the club and believed in every player, even me,” he added.
