Arsenal are reportedly keen on a move for USA international Tyler Adams, and his previous comments about emulating Thierry Henry make for interesting reading.

Like many football fans born in the late 1990s, Adams grew up watching Arsenal as one of the dominant forces in world football, and as you can imagine, Henry caught his imagination.

Adams says that Henry was his motivation to get into football, claiming that he one day wants to follow in his footsteps.

What’s he said?

It’s no secret that Adams is an Arsenal fan, and he’s been very open about his admiration for the Gunners legend.

“As a kid, I had a poster of Thierry Henry in my room,” Adams told Germany’s Bild newspaper. “I often watched his games for Arsenal or Barcelona. I was then able to train with him. I became a professional because of Henry. He was my motivation,” Adams said

“The guy who kind of got me all in for soccer was Henry,” Adams said in another interview.

“When he was at Arsenal, I would wake up in the morning and flip the TV to “Fox Sports Report” and see how he was doing. I’d watch whatever games I could possibly watch when he was in the EPL and at Barcelona. I remember always wearing his jerseys when I was younger. He was always a role model for me. I wanted to follow his footsteps, even though I didn’t play the same position. His mentality that he brought to the field and the skill level that he contained made him my favourite player.”

Here’s your chance

Adams may have the perfect chance to follow in Henry’s footsteps by signing for Arsenal.

The Gunners reportedly hold an interest in Adams, who joined RB Leipzig for $3m (£2.1m), and it’s certainly a move that would interest him, given his allegiances to Arsenal on a personal level.

Would Adams be the new Henry for Arsenal? Well, given the fact he’s a midfielder rather than an attacker, it’s unlikely, but he’s a very talented player who could go on to become a Gunners great if he joined.
