Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, with Jürgen Klopp believed to have held talks with his representatives.

That is according to Foot Mercato in France, who believe the 55-year-old will also hold more talks regarding a deal for the Morocco international once the World Cup is over.

Now, if this rumour is true, we doubt Fabinho will be very happy.

What’s the story?

Well, Amrabat has made a name for himself in Qatar with some phenomenal performances at the base of Walid Regragui’s midfield, dominating opposition attackers in a No.6 role.

Funnily enough, the No.6 role is where Fabinho operates at Anfield, and he may now be starting to think that Klopp is hunting for his replacement.

Of course, we wouldn’t be suggesting this if the Brazil international had been playing well this season.

However, Fabinho has looked a shadow of his usual self this term as Liverpool sit sixth in the Premier League.

The £180,000-a-week man has been questioned by Jamie Carragher for his displays this season, with the Liverpool legend calling Klopp’s No.3 a “ghost” back in October.

Micah Richards also believes there have been some “strange” performances from Fabinho.

Amrabat deal could solve multiple issues for Liverpool

In our view, even if Liverpool sign Amrabat and he doesn’t immediately become a starter, his arrival could still solve multiple issues for Klopp.

Competition for places in the starting XI is vital in football, as it gives those in the side something to worry about.

If there is nobody breathing down your neck for a starting role, it can be easy to become complacent.

As a result, Amrabat’s mere presence on the bench could give Fabinho the kick up his backside that he needs.

If that doesn’t happen, then Klopp can simply swap the South American with the Morocco international in the side – for a rumoured fee of just £26m, it is certainly a deal worth doing for the Reds.
