Yesterday, the English Football League held their end-of-season awards, and it was a good night for Arsenal and Tottenham target Djed Spence.

What’s the story?

Well, the Nottingham Forest defender – who is on loan from Middlesbrough – is expected to join Arsenal or Tottenham this summer.

Spence only has a year remaining on his contract, and Boro are resigned to losing the 21-year-old after his rise to stardom at the City Ground.

Due to his contract situation, Mikel Arteta or Antonio Conte will only have to pay £12m to sign the precocious right-back.

Now, that figure might’ve increased slightly after Spence was named in the Championship Team of the Year.

It comes after the London-born wonderkid scored three goals in 43 appearances this season, while also providing five assists.

Spence’s efforts even led to praise from Ian Wright, who described the blossoming right-back as an “unbelievable” player.

Djed Spence should choose Tottenham over Arsenal

In our view, this transfer battle should be a very interesting one, as there isn’t much to separate the Gunners and Spurs right now.

Ultimately, we believe Spence will want assurances over his playing time, which puts Tottenham in the driving seat.

Arteta currently has a standout right-back in Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit.

However, Conte doesn’t really have anyone he would consider a standout right-back, as that department is a problem area for Spurs.

The Italian has coached Matt Doherty well, and has alternated between him and Emerson Royal since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, there is still a clear issue in that area, which must be sorted given Conte’s reliance on the wing-backs in his preferred style of play.

Therefore, we feel Spence should join Tottenham this summer, as it would be the best step for his career.
