Huddersfield’s Premier League status see them with huge financial power compared to rivals Leeds United.

A year ago Huddersfield Town and Leeds United were closely matched rivals on the pitch, before the Terriers clinched promotion through the play-offs.

The rivalry remains between the two clubs, with Town’s Philip Billing appearing to mock Leeds’ FA Cup exit via Twitter last weekend.

Huddersfield spent moderately during their 2016/17 promotion season, with their highest fee spent being the £2 million on Christopher Schindler.

Leeds remain spending in a similar price bracket this season, with £3 million their top spend on Samu Saiz.

But now in the Premier League, Huddersfield attempting to do everything they can to stay there, blessed with increased funds thanks to the television money on offer.

Days ago they completed a £11 million move to sign Alex Pritchard from Norwich City, a move some may consider a gamble due to his injury troubles, but a move which could be inspired.

But Huddersfield can afford to take the risk, and need to do so if they are to stay put in the Premier League.

They sit in 14th place at present, and despite a poor result at the weekend, sit four points clear of the drop zone.

Meanwhile Leeds continue to flatter to deceive, falling out of the play-off spots at the weekend with a defeat to Ipswich Town.

They sit in seventh, but are just three points clear of 11th placed Brentford.

Leeds have been busy recruiting players, but at a low cost, and only one January addition is ready to play for their first team.

It is looking like they face a struggle to win promotion, while their rivals become richer than ever before, emphasising a gap between the two clubs which Terriers fans hope will continue to grow bigger and bigger.
