Leeds United may attract big crowds and worldwide attention, but last season they were outgunned by Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town who won promotion instead.

The Terriers are giving the Premier League their best shot this campaign, while Leeds remain in the Championship.

On Sunday Leeds suffered an embarrassing exit from the FA Cup at the hands of League Two side Newport County – a result which appeared to cause great amusement for one of Huddersfield’s midfielders.

Philip Billing took to Twitter to express his belief that the result confirms Huddersfield’s status as Yorkshire’s top club.

Unsurprisingly Billing came in for criticism from Leeds fans on Twitter, but he pointed out that he did not specifically mention their rivals.

Billing featured as a substitute on Saturday as Huddersfield won 2-1 away to Bolton Wanderers to book their place in the FA Cup fourth round.

This is the second year Leeds have been beaten by lower league opposition, having been dumped out by non-league Sutton United in 2017.
