Mikel Arteta has tipped Eddie Nketiah to get ‘much better at Arsenal‘, claiming he’ll have surprised quite a few people in recent weeks.

When Gabriel Jesus was ruled out until March, a lot of pundits called on the Gunners to sign a new number nine.

Paul Merson, in particular, claimed that Nketiah – who earns £100,000 per week – wouldn’t even get a game at Wolves, let alone Arsenal, as covered by HITC Sport.

But the London Colney product has just scored two goals in a massive 3-2 win over Manchester United, having also found the net on a number of other occasions since Jesus has been absent.

The 23-year-old is proving himself a massive part of Arsenal’s Premier League title push.

And Arteta, speaking to the club’s official website, says he’ll get even better.

He said: “Eddie has been very consistent and I think he has surprised a few people with how he responded to the huge challenge and demands he had after Gabriel [Jesus] got injured. We are positive he can get much better, evolve and still continue to develop.”

You have to tip your hat to Nketiah.

Arteta is right in saying that he has surprised people by his form, with even many an Arsenal supporter likely believing that he wasn’t a patch on Jesus.

And although that may be true, Nketiah is still proving that he’s a brilliant goalscorer nonetheless and right now, the North Londoners don’t need another striker and that, really, is how well he’s done.
