Speaking on Stadium Astro’s YouTube channel, ex-Liverpool man Stephen Warnock has warned the Reds of the dangers of letting Georginio Wijnaldum leave the club as his contract comes towards an end.
The ex-left-back says that Liverpool must get him tied down to a new deal, as he claims it would cost the club £50-60m to replace him if he did leave.
“100%, I would. To go into the market and buy someone like Gini Wijnaldum you’re looking at, I don’t know, £50-60m, do Liverpool have the finances to do that after the pandemic? I don’t think they do,” Warnock said.
“They’ve obviously brought Thiago into the squad as well, but one thing you will say is when Liverpool brought in Naby Keita and Fabinho, everyone thought that was the end of Wijnaldum, but Wijnaldum’s game lifted hugely and he showed his importance.”

Warnock is spot on, Liverpool should try to keep Wijnaldum, but of course, it’s easier said than done.
Any player in the world would have their head turned when clubs the size of Inter Milan and Barcelona are showing an interest in you, and of course, there’s the hefty signing on fee that Wijnaldum could be in line for if he does leave on a free.
You wouldn’t blame him one bit for moving on from Liverpool, but the Reds need to do all they can to convince him to stay.
Rio Ferdinand said it last week, and now Warnock is saying it now, so the Anfield outfit should probably take the advice of two former-England internationals, and get Wijnaldum’s future sorted.
Fingers crossed Liverpool can come to some sort of agreement with the midfielder.
