The world watched on as NFL star Travis Kelce and music icon Taylor Swift got married at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It is difficult to think of a wedding in recent times that attracted quite as much attention, even while the ceremony was shrouded in a relative amount of secrecy.

Clearly, it is difficult to keep everything private when the world wants details.

The wedding was obviously a story of global interest, both because of the names involved and the sheer intrigue into how much money it costs to put on an event of such magnitude.

While there were no doubt more expensive costs involved, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has revealed how much the wedding permit set the couple back.

Kelce-Swift wedding permit cost more than $160,000

Asked directly how much the permit cost, Mamdani confirmed that Swift had paid more than $160,000.

“Taylor Swift will be paying … has paid already the cost of the permit that was lodged, which was over $160,000 for that event and for the response to that event,” he said (via Variety).

“That was a permit that was finalized, I think, in just the days before the event itself.”

That helped cover the police overtime involved in the event. Both permits and cooperation from the city are crucial in organizing large-scale events of this nature.

The wedding is believed to have caused significant road closures around Midtown Manhattan for around three days before the ceremony itself, while there also needed to be increased police activity.

Kelce and Swift might well have tied the knot at one of basketball’s most famous venues, but there was little sign that the sport had ever even been played there during the service.

Indeed, Kelce and Swift transformed Madison Square Garden for their wedding, with details from those behind the scenes at the exclusive event likely to emerge over the next few weeks.

Ahead of their wedding, Swift and Kelce are believed to have donated around $26m to various New York-based charities.

The donation will reach charities who work to help with hunger relief organizations, food banks, education and music programs.
