Zinedine Zidane offers instant reaction to Tottenham Hotspur’s performance

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has labelled Tottenham Hotspur ‘a great team’ after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu this evening, as quoted by Football Espana.

Spurs travelled to the Spanish capital with few giving them a real chance of a result, but they turned in an exceptional performance to again underline their improvement under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham took the lead against the run of play, with Harry Kane’s backheel from a Serge Aurier cross cannoning into the net via Raphael Varane’s shins.

However, Real Madrid did get back on level terms from the penalty spot, when Aurier tripped Toni Kroos, allowing Cristiano Ronaldo step up and send Hugo Lloris the wrong way for the equaliser.

Both teams had chances to win it; Lloris was forced into a number of fine saves, whilst Kane and Christian Eriksen both went close for Spurs late on, but Tottenham will have been delighted with a point.

The result leaves Tottenham top of their Champions League group with seven points from three games, and it’s another night for Spurs fans to marvel at their outstanding young squad, Pochettino and the progress they have made.

After the final whistle, Real boss Zinedine Zidane spoke to the press, and as quoted by Football Espana, he called Tottenham ‘a great team’.

Zidane noted that both teams could have scored more in what was a ‘good match’, and believes Real must try and win at Wembley in their next Champions League game against Spurs.

“We played against a great team, they also played well,” said Zidane. “We could’ve scored more, but so could they. It’s a normal result. It was a good match and we have the match in London next. We have to try to win at Wembley.”

“They scored when we were the better team and that’s tougher to accept, but it’s no big deal. Now we’re thinking about our next game. It’s another Final for the group and we’ll be playing at Wembley. It’s not Tottenham’s stadium, but it’s the Champions League,” he added.
