Zinedine Zidane offers instant reaction to Tottenham Hotspur’s performance

Tottenham Hotspur hammered Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League this evening.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has told Football.London that he thinks Tottenham can win the Champions League after they were ‘superior’ at Wembley Stadium tonight.

Just two weeks ago, pundits and Spurs fans were ecstatic with a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, but Tottenham went one better with a thumping 3-1 win at Wembley Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men took the lead against the reigning Champions League holders in the first half, as Dele Alli slid the ball home from close range after smart play from Harry Winks and Kieran Trippier.

Alli made it 2-0 in the second half with a deflected strike, before Christian Eriksen went through on goal to slot home a third, leaving Spurs fans in dream land.

Cristiano Ronaldo did pull back a consolation for Real, but the night belonged to Tottenham, as they produced a sensational performance to defeat Zinedine Zidane’s men.

The win means Spurs have now booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition with two games to spare, having collected a superb 10 points from from four games so far.

After the final whistle, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane spoke to Football.London, and made repeated reference to the fact that Real simply came up against a better and ‘superior’ side on the night in Tottenham.

Zidane added that any team can win the Champions League, and Tottenham are certainly one of the contenders after they dismantled the reigning champions tonight.

“I’m not worried and I never will be this season. We came up against a better team that put in a better performance on the night,” said Zidane. “For me it’s not a mental block. Sometimes there are periods when the goals fly in. Sometimes it just doesn’t want to go in. We came up against a better team. In all aspects of play they were superior.”

“What can I say, we’ve lost in the Champions League. That’s two defeats and we’re not happy about it. We have to keep our heads held high.This is life. Sometimes you have to accept that things aren’t going your way. I can’t say everything is great in the dressing room. We have to turn it around. We played against a team that played very well and deserved the win. Yes, any team can win the Champions League and Tottenham are certainly one of them,” he added.
