Should Rangers aim big and try bring the Portuguese international to Ibrox?

Rangers have appointed themselves a new manager, following Mark Warburton’s departure last month.
Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha is now in charge, after leaving Qatari side Al Garafah.
Immediately much of the focus has turned to next season, with Rangers now far behind biggest rivals Celtic in any title race, including potential new faces.
Caixinha may not be a household name but he has worked all over the world with some big names. One such player, who is available on a free transfer in the summer, could have the potential to be Rangers biggest signing in a generation.
Zenit St Petersburg attacking midfielder Danny played at Sporting Lisbon when Caixinha was assistant manager at the club. That was over ten years ago and since then the Venezuelan-born Portugal international has developed a fine reputation for himself in Russian football.
The 33-year-old has won seven major honours in Russia and was the 2010 Russian player of the year.
He is also a Portugal international, featuring 34 times for his nation. Only a knee injury prevented him from being a part of the European Championship winning side of last season.
Now the veteran is out of contract in the summer and has only featured in one game for Zenit in the Russian top-flight this season.
Undoubtedly his wages would be a concern but this is the type of marquee signing Rangers need to make if they are going to challenge Celtic again.

With the potential bonus of European football to offer him Rangers might be able to convince Danny to reunite with Caixinha at Ibrox.
If they did so, they might have the most talented player in Scotland on their hands, who could have a massive impact in Glasgow.
Ambitious? Yes. But if Rangers are to rediscover their former glories they need to aim big.
