Tottenham were strongly linked with Nicolo Zaniolo this summer.

A line was drawn under Tottenham Hotspur’s summer pursuit of Nicolo Zaniolo this week.
The Roma midfielder signed a new deal at the club, ending speculation over his future.
The Daily Mail reported at the start of he transfer window that Tottenham were interested in the Italy international.
These rumours persisted through the summer, with The Mirror claiming just a month ago that Tottenham were confident of a deal. The Mirror also linked Tottenham with making a £40 million bid.
As ever in the transfer window, it can be difficult to separate fact and fiction, but this is one deal which was probably never on in the first place.

Zaniolo’s comments to Roma’s website suggests he only had eyes for his current club.
He said: “A year ago it was an easy decision to choose Roma, and today it is even easier – after a season that helped me fall in love with this team and this city.
“I would like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to tie myself even closer to these colours – it is exactly what I wanted.”
Of course after Tottenham’s own summer activity, signing Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, Zaniolo was a player they no longer needed.
