On-loan Celtic midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has admitted to The Scottish Sun that it’s been a difficult season for him.

Mulumbu joined Celtic from Kilmarnock last summer but only started two games for the Hoops across all competitions, before re-signing for Steve Clarke’s side on loan last month.

The 32-year-old midfielder has looked back to his best since returning to Rugby Park, and claims that his aim is to help Killie qualify for the Europa League come May.

“It’s been a hard season for me personally, but if I could help Kilmarnock qualify for Europe that would make up for a lot,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“That’s the aim, but I need to show it out there on the pitch.”

Mulumbu must regret joining Celtic in the first place.

The former West Brom man dazzled under Clarke last season but Parkhead was never the wise move.

Brendan Rodgers has an abundance of quality midfielders and the emergence of Ryan Christie made it even harder to stake a claim under the Northern Irishman.

This summer he will still have another year to go on his contract with the Bhoys, but it seems unlikely that he’ll ever be a big player for the club.
