Speaking on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been discussing Harry Kane and his future.
The pair were tasked with ranking the 10 greatest English players in Premier League history, and, understandably, Kane made the cut.
Inevitably, the conversation turned onto Kane’s future, and Shearer believes that Spurs fans would be very accepting if Kane demanded a move away from north London this summer, but Gary Lineker believes that opinion is wide of the mark.
What’s been said?
Shearer and Lineker discussed Kane.
“I don’t think there’ll be one Tottenham fan who would criticise him now if he was to demand a move,” Shearer said.
“Oh, I think you’re wrong. they half-turned against him in the summer. A lot of them turned against him for a while, and he’s won them around recently, even though it’s not been his best season, he’s put in some unbelievable performances as of late, but they turned against him, they did, there’s no question about that,” Lineker said.

Hard to say
It’s really hard to say how Spurs fans would react to Kane’s departure, and to be honest, Shearer and Lineker are in uniquely qualified positions to speak about these things.
Shearer knows what it’s like to be the local hero at Newcastle, and he probably feels that the Toon Army would back him through anything, even if he did leave at the peak of his powers.
Meanwhile, Lineker has actually played for, and left, Tottenham in his career, so he’s very much tuned in to what the fans in north London are like.
The truth is that we’ll never know until Kane actually leaves, and it probably depends on where he goes, how it’s handled and how much money Spurs receive for the striker.
