Mark Lawrenson told Off the Ball that he doesn’t think Arsenal duo, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, are ‘giving everything’ for Mikel Arteta.
It has once again been a troublesome start for Arsenal in the Premier League and two defeats from their opening two matches isn’t helping anyone’s cause.
Lacazette is yet to feature this season because of COVID, whilst Aubameyang came off the bench during his side’s defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Liverpool legend Lawrenson thinks Arteta is being ‘too lenient’ in North London, as he made his claim about Aubameyang and Lacazette.
“You get your Lacazette’s and Aubameyang’s,” said Lawrenson. “You are looking at them and thinking ‘are you really giving everything to this football club?’.
“I am not sure that they are. I hate that thing where they say that the manager is too nice.
“Maybe the manager is too lenient, rather than being too nice. He’s taken Odegaard in as well, which will help.”
The argument against why Arsenal have started off in such a fashion is the fact that some feel Arteta hasn’t been able to put out his best or strongest XI yet.
He won’t be able to do that any time soon, but after the international break, it seems as though that’s when the mood could seriously turn against the former midfielder.
Unless Arsenal get knocked out of the EFL Cup by West Brom on Wednesday night and then get thumped by Man City in the Premier League, it seems as though the majority aren’t calling for his head yet.
Aubameyang being back is a boost for the club, but it’s not like he is one of their key players now because he had his worst season in Arsenal colours last term.
