Alan Shearer has claimed that ‘you are going to be in trouble’ if you don’t defend as a group against Tottenham trio Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Lucas Moura, as he told Premier League Productions (17/10/21 at 5:50 pm).

Two of the above players scored for Spurs on Sunday, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side spoiled Newcastle’s new ownership party.

Even though Spurs went behind inside two minutes, they kept their cool and went into the break leading 3-1.

Eric Dier did score an own goal minutes from time, but Nuno’s side saw off 10-man Newcastle, whose new owners will be concerned by what they are seeing from their players.

But credit has to go to the North London club for dealing with that pressure and changing a vibrant and uplifting mood at St James’ Park to one that left the opposition on the floor.

Shearer labelled the Spurs trio as ‘quality’, with Kane also netting his first Premier League goal of the campaign.

“When you have got Son, Kane and Moura, three quality players,” said Shearer.

“Then, you are going to be in trouble if you don’t defend as a group.”

Eight games in and Spurs are sitting fifth in the table, which isn’t too bad for a side that was seemingly in meltdown before the international break.

The big positive for Spurs is that Kane hasn’t really got going yet, and if he now goes on a goalscoring run, then that will only push his side further up the table.

Nuno has previous of helping a team into Europe – he did it in back-to-back seasons with Wolves.

Finishing in the Champions League places is still a big ask for Spurs, but if Nuno manages to do it then it will be some achievement given where the club has been recently.
