Ryan Mason has told his former Tottenham teammate, Andros Townsend, on Instagram ‘you are flying’ after he scored yet another goal for Everton on Saturday.

Five years after leaving Tottenham for £12 million (BBC Sport), Townsend was purchased on a free transfer by Everton this summer.

And the 30-year-old is more than proving his worth because, in eight games in all competitions, he has scored four goals and supplied three assists.

That included scoring from the penalty spot on Saturday, when the Toffees beat rock-bottom Norwich City 2-0 at Goodison Park.

When Townsend posted his reaction to the win on Instagram, he received a number of high praise from past and current players.

Tottenham coach Mason simply wrote: “You are flying.” to which the winger responded: “Good pre-season mate.”

Whilst Ben Godfrey labelled both Townsend and Demarai Gray as “some duo’, as Rafa Benitez’s side sit just outside of the Champions League places after six games.

Given that Townsend was a free transfer, it begs the question as to why more clubs weren’t looking to bring him in this summer.

There would have been no transfer fee attached to his signing, plus he would have brought a vast amount of experience to the table.

Both from the Premier League and on the international stage with England.

But Townsend’s performances won’t surprise the Spurs fans because they would have seen him breakthrough their ranks and work his magic during his time in North London.
