Chris Sutton hit out at BBC Radio 5 Live presenter, Alistair Bruce-Ball after he controversially questioned whether Leeds ‘deserve’ to be in the Premier League.
Whilst speaking on BBC’s 606 Radio 5 Live podcast, Sutton stated that Leeds are a team who ‘belong’ in England’s top-flight following their promotion on Friday.
But the BBC presenter questioned and seemingly disagreed with the former striker and made it clear that Sutton was being ‘ridiculous’.
Here was their exchange on 606 yesterday, with Sutton first praising Leeds for returning to the big time for the first time in 16 years.
“No dirty Leeds anymore, delightful Leeds,” Sutton told 606. “Deservedly back where they belong. In the top league. In the Premier League. That’s where they deserve to be.
The BBC presenter responded “Is Chris right, are Leeds one of those clubs that do deserve to be in the Premier League?’
“Why are you being like that?” Sutton asked. “Why are you even questioning that, Bruce?
Bruce-Ball responded: “Otherwise, you just put your 20 favourite clubs in, you close the door and you don’t have relegation. You’re being ridiculous.
“You know what, Bruce. It’s history,” said Sutton. “It’s nostalgia. They are a great club. A brilliant club. They deserve to be in the Premier League. They belong in the Premier League.”
For many supporters of an older generation, Leeds returning back to England’s top-flight does take them back to their childhoods when the Yorkshire outfit were a mean top division side.

Even though Leeds spent a large amount of time outside of England’s top-flight, they are still one of the top eight sides in the country when you include, history, fan base, trophies and the size of the club.
