Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez labelled Tottenham defender Cristian Romero as an ‘animal’ on Instagram after Argentina qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Both players started for their country last night, as they recorded a feisty and aggressive goalless draw against Brazil during their World Cup qualifier.
It was another clean sheet for Villa’s man between the sticks and another top performance from Romero at the back.
Life at Spurs may have started off in a slow fashion for the big-money summer signing, but he is slowly starting to find his feet now.
That’s being aided by his performance for Argentina, who will head to Qatar as the Copa America winners and one of the favourites.
Nonetheless, Romero was delighted with the news of his country heading to next year’s World Cup, as he posted his message.
Romero stated: “Proud to be part of this awesome group. Crazy what I get to live. Here were go Qatar 2022.”
Martinez added in the comments section: “You are an animal.”
Both Martinez and Romero will now return to the domestic circuit where they have new managers in the dugout.
Romero has already tasted life under his new coach Antonio Conte, whilst Steven Gerrard is the new man at Aston Villa’s training ground.
Both teams sacked their managers – Nuno Espirito Santo and Dean Smith – in a ruthless fashion this season after poor starts.
And, in the long run, the minimum aim will be to get back into Europe and put some trophies in their cabinet.
Conte is more proven than the fresh-faced Gerrard, but he does join Villa after winning the Scottish Premiership title in an unbeaten fashion with Rangers last season.
