Pablo Mari, Emi Martinez, Callum Chambers and Gabriel were just some of the players on Instagram who reacted to Gabriel Martinelli making a long-awaited return from injury for Arsenal’s youngsters on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old has been out of action since June because of a knee injury, but the popular Arsenal player completed 45 minutes for the under-21’s, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Despite still being a teenager and having little experience under his belt, Arsenal have missed the fearless nature, directness and attacking flair of Martinelli.
Well, a number of his current and former players sent these messages to the versatile winger on Instagram upon his return to the field.
Martinelli’s fellow countryman, Gabriel wrote: “Come on my brother. Happy to get you back.”
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez reacted with heart-eyes emojis, with Lacazette adding fire emojis to his Instagram post.
Callum Chambers added: “Love it bro.”, and his centre-back compatriot, Mari, also wrote: “You are a beast brother. Deserve everything. Welcome back.”
Purchased for just £6 million last summer [Telegraph], a lot is already expected of Martinelli, who is needed on the Emirates pitch to lift this seemingly lifeless and confidence-drained Arsenal side.
That bite, fearless nature and attacking intent is very much-needed in the final third, with a number of senior stars, such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Willian struggling for form.
Whilst Arsenal need to be careful by not putting too much pressure on Martinelli’s shoulders, the under-fire Mikel Arteta in the dugout will be hoping his rising star can lift the mood around the place.
Since Martinelli’s injury, Arsenal have lifted the FA Cup, the Community Shield, but now find themselves in the bottom half of the table heading into Christmas.
