Leon Osman and Tim Sherwood slammed Jordan Pickford for his costly goalkeeping error during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Former Toffee star Osman stated that Pickford’s mistake, which led to Harry Kane scoring from the penalty spot, is supposed to be ‘your bread and butter’ as a goalkeeper, as he told Premier League Productions (15/10/22 at 7:40 pm).
A tame shot from inside Everton’s box was parried back into the path of the instinctively quick Kane, who tried to knock the ball past his England teammate, before he was brought down.

Whilst the away side created enough chances to score in the first half, it went pretty quiet in the second and they had their backs against the wall.
And even though Pickford has been outstanding for 18 months now, it was a moment to forget for the player and one that ended up proving to be costly because Kane dispatched his spot-kick and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then added a second late on.
Either way, both Sherwood and Osman were critical of England’s number one and how he should have grasped the initial effort at goal.
“It was a poor mistake from Pickford,” said Sherwood. “Tottenham have got bodies in the box. They keep it alive. It was a tame shot and Pickford should be able to grasp that one, then Harry (Kane) is alive. Gets there before anyone else and toes it past Pickford.
“Pickford then collides his head into Harry’s thigh. And the referee makes the right call. It’s a poor goalkeeping error.
Osman added: “I have praised Jordan Pickford before the game and for some of the saves he made during the game.
“But that’s your bread and butter. Your defence is relying on you. They are working so hard in front of you to make sure efforts that are coming at you, of that quality, then you should be able to wrap them up, all day long.”

PICKFORD OF OLD
For a long while now, Pickford has been outstanding on the domestic stage and he was a big reason why the club survived relegation last season.
But that error were his old days creeping back again and Everton fans don’t want to be going back there again.
Pickford won’t have to wait long to redeem himself because Frank Lampard’s side take on Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
The ex-Sunderland man will sure get a warm welcome from the St James’ Park crowd, like he does every season, but there is no better way to shut the opposition up than with a clean sheet.
