Page is considered a future first-team left-back at the Hammers, but is finding his opportunities limited by Cresswell.
West Ham United youngster Lewis Page has told the club’s official website that he looks up to first-team left-back Aaron Cresswell as a mentor as he looks to earn more senior opportunities.
Page has three appearance for the Hammers to his name so far, with all of those coming in the qualifying stages of last season’s Europa League 12 months ago.
Due to the impressive form of Cresswell, the 20-year-old left-back did not get a look-in on any domestic action last term as the Irons finished seventh to qualify for the Europa League once again.
However, the up-and-coming talent started the club’s 3-0 friendly defeat to Seattle Sounders this week, and will be hoping to be given more chances to shine by Slaven Bilic in European and domestic competitions this term.
Page, though, is well aware of how difficult he will find it to dislodge Cresswell, who was arguably one of West Ham’s stand-out performers last season, and admitted to the club’s official website that he looks up to the man who has missed just a single league game in his two years in London.
Page said: “I had a little bit of experience last year in the Europa League and I thought I did quite well there, but obviously Cress is one of the best left-backs in the league at the moment.
“I look up to him in training and see what he does to try and learn from him.”
Page would struggle to find a better role model in his position last season than Cresswell; the 26-year-old played 37 of the Hammers’ 38 league games and was arguably one of their most consistent performers.
The 2015 Hammer of the Year signed a new five-year contract 12 months ago, and has shown all the signs that he can be the club’s first choice on the left side of defence for years to come.
