Last night Martinez struck while the iron’s hot, netting for the under-23s in a victory over Manchester United.
His goal came in a 3-0 win, and is his 12th of the season at under-23 level.
Martinez’s goal keeps him in Moyes’ plans, especially with a cup replay on the horizon.
Mark Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez are top of the pecking order for the Hammers when it comes to forward options, while Diafra Sakho’s future is the subject of speculation.
Martinez’s under-23 form is keeping him in the mix for more opportunities, and he is demonstrating he deserves to continue to be considered.
There has been a clamour from fans for Martinez to get first team chances, and while he did not manage to break the deadlock at the weekend, he has kept himself in the mix with last night’s goal.
