Jack Wilshere has admitted that he would never take the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job.
The 30-year-old hung up his boots during the summer months and is now Arsenal Under-18 boss.
Wilshere revealed on Thursday, as covered by HITC Sport, that Gunners’ Mikel Arteta is a massive inspiration for him in what he hopes will be a career in management some day.
There’s uncertainty over whether Antonio Conte is going to be the Tottenham coach long term.
But the former Arsenal midfielder has admitted that he’d never take the job if he was asked.
He told talkSPORT, speaking with co-host Andy Goldstein: “Do you think they’d take me? I’m a little more disliked [than George Graham]. No. No.”
Wilshere is only at the very beginning of his coaching career but he’ll no doubt have major ambitions to become a Premier League manager at some point in the future and – whisper it – perhaps even oversee his former club.
Obviously Arteta won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, which is just as well for Arsenal because they’re top of the Premier League standings, two points clear of Manchester City.
But longer term, Wilshere will certainly hope that this Under-18s role can provide the foundations for a solid career in management, even if Tottenham is a no go.
