Robbie Savage says Morgan Gibbs-White would cost ‘£60 million’ after it was suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur should sign the Nottingham Forest star.

After earning promotion last season, Nottingham Forest pushed the boat out in the transfer market, including signing Morgan Gibbs-White for £42.5 million from Wolves (Sky Sports).

Whilst the Midlands giants wouldn’t want to part ways with their star midfielder this summer, for Savage, if it happened, then they would command ‘more’ than that fee, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

That gamble on Gibbs-White proved to be a masterstroke because he ended up helping Steve Cooper’s side survive relegation to the Championship.

From his 37 league games, he scored five and assisted eight, including three goals and three assists during his side’s final seven games of the season.

That’s probably why former midfielder Savage was told by a Tottenham caller on 606 that the England U21 star would be a ‘perfect’ signing for Spurs, as he issued the following response.

“They got him for £40 million,” said Savage. “You think it would be more than £40 million if he was to leave? Even if they allowed him to leave.

“Brennan Johnson has also been mentioned. I think Brentford were linked with him. Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White, for Forest, are worth survival in the Premier League. Those two, they are probably worth £120 million between the pair of them.”

Will Spurs bulk up their attacking midfield?

To the surprise of Tottenham fans, Daniel Levy has already pulled a gem out of the market by signing James Maddison from Leicester City for just £40 million.

To secure the talents of a goalscoring midfielder, who is also an England international, for that fee in today’s inflated market should be applauded.

But does Postecoglou need more bite and aggression in the final third? Someone like Gibbs-White would be an outstanding purchase because he has that drive, punch and power to his game that would excite Spurs fans.

Their only problem is the fee Forest would command, and rightly so, so they are better off looking elsewhere.
