Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli after their Everton debuts.

Van de Beek and Alli didn’t have dream debuts for the Toffees. They were on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss to Newcastle, and they really didn’t have much of an impact on the game.

Seaman says that he expected these two to have an immediate impact at Goodison Park, but they’re yet to live up to their billing.

What’s Seaman said?

The former goalkeeper gave his view on Everton’s two newest signings.

“I wasn’t convinced by Dele Alli when he came on and Van de Beek was quiet as well. I know it can take a while to get started, but these are players with something to prove and you thought they might want to impress from the outset. Alli made a few nice runs after he came on, but he wasn’t tracking back, he gave the ball away for one of the goals and he was quite languid,” Seaman’s co-host said.

“I know what you’re saying with van de Beek and Alli, they’re big signings for Everton, you’d expect them to go in and make a difference straight away or really impose themselves, but we didn’t really see that against Newcastle,” Seaman said.

Should be making an impact

As Seaman’s co-host said, it can take some time to get started at a new club, but these two players shouldn’t be using that as an excuse.

Both players know the Premier League well, and with Frank Lampard only just taking charge at Everton, they’re in the same boat as every other player tactically.

Alli and van de Beek were brought in to make an impact this season, and they need to step up in the coming months.
