Alan Stubbs has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers winger Ryan Kent has remedied a very important aspect of his game: consistency.
The 23-year-old only managed eight goals across all competitions last term following a £7 million permanent move to Ibrox from Liverpool.
But Kent already has five goals under his belt this time around following a fast-and-furious start to the new season with Rangers.
Stubbs has revealed that he tried to sign the former Barnsley loanee while he was working down South, suggesting that he was put off by the player’s Jekyll & Hyde nature, but added that Kent is now ‘at his most confident’.
He told The Scottish Sun: “I tried to get him when I was at Rotherham just after his loan at Barnsley. I watched a normal winger where one game he could be absolutely brilliant, and the next game you wouldn’t even know he was on the pitch.
“When you’re young, the hardest thing to find is a consistent level. He’s obviously played more games and gone to Rangers for big money. His first season was mixed. I think what you’re seeing now is Kent at his most confident.”
Kent has played a starring role in Rangers’ wins over Celtic in the past and Steven Gerrard will be looking for him to inspire the light Blues again on Saturday.
Parkhead plays host to the first Old Firm derby of the season this weekend and with Alfredo Morelos famously ineffective in this fixture [he has never scored against Celtic] Gerrard will be banking on the magic coming from the former Liverpool winger.
And on this form, you certainly wouldn’t back against him doing just that.
