Troy Deeney has stated in a blunt manner that ‘you would be foolish’ not to be backing Liverpool for the Premier League title, as he told TalkSport Breakfast (26/10/20 at 9:10 am).

Even with Liverpool’s mixed start to the season from the goals conceded, that 7-2 defeat and Virgil van Dijk’s injury, Deeney is still backing the Reds to make it back-to-back.

The massive positive Liverpool should take is despite such an uneasy start, they are still sitting second in the table, so when it does become better and more predictable from their part then they should only be heading one way.

Deeney is well aware of what it’s like coming up against this Liverpool side and claimed that they have to go into the market again in January to replace Van Dijk and think that will only ‘make them better’.

“I would still say Liverpool,” Deeney told TalkSport. “I still think they have got the best XI. I think now if you take one of the front three out and you add Jota to that as well then they still have goals.

“I think with what has happened to Van Dijk, they are going to have to go into the market again in January, which would only make them better.

“I think you would be foolish not to go for Liverpool.”

The madness of the Premier League this season has raised the question as to whether a surprise package can lift the title at the end of the season.

Whilst Liverpool fans won’t like to hear it, Everton’s name has been bandied about and Jose Mourinho at Tottenham is someone not worth messing with.

Manchester City will also be the obvious ones, but they have started the new campaign in an indifferent manner and they are also having their own injury problems.
